Located in beautiful Colborne, Ontario, Canada on The Apple Route, Pieter's Appleyard offers high quality fruit that you pick yourself. The sooner the fruit reaches you, the higher the quality.. and what is faster than picking it yourself?

Pieter's Appleyard is a modern operation; its mostly dwarf trees are clearly identified by variety which makes picking an enjoyable activity. The most popular of the 33 varieties we grow, have been planted close together allowing the visitor to check out several apples before deciding what to buy. Handy little carts are available to keep your picked apples near you.

While the orchard's layout is done on a modern scale the natural setting of the farm itself has been maintained and offers the visitors an opportunity to take in breathtaking views of Lake Ontario.

The orchard is managed under a strict Integrated Pest Management program. Meticulous, weekly examinations of insects are carried out by government appointed scouts. By trying to establish a balance between predatory and damaging insects insecticidal spray have been kept to a minimum which in the past has produced fruit which is free from residues expressed in parts per 100 million.

In the past our farm was one of only ten Ontario orchards selected for an advanced IPM program with further experiments to control insect control. We would still be involved today, but the funding for this program was cut. This bio-intensive treatment has proven to be a very worthwhile experience and has helped us rely even more on the work of beneficial insects than before.
